1. Introduction
Welcome to ChessEver. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience using our app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile and desktop applications, website, and AI assistant.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and username.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you use the app, including features accessed, games viewed, and tournaments followed.
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers for analytics and app improvement.
- AI Assistant: We receive the text you submit to Botvinnik, including any personal information you include. We store conversations, replies, and feedback with your account. Requests may include your language, timezone, app platform and version, and current chess screen context, such as an event, game, or player.
- Purchase Information: If you subscribe to premium features, payment processing is handled by Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Stripe depending on where you subscribe. We do not store your payment card details.
Google Sign-In
If you choose Sign in with Google, Google provides ChessEver with your email address, name, profile photo, and a unique Google account identifier. We use this information only to create and authenticate your ChessEver account, associate your ChessEver activity with that account, and display your account profile.
ChessEver requests only the basic authentication scopes needed for sign-in. We do not use Google Sign-In to access your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendar, or other Google services, and we do not sell Google account information or use it for advertising.
You can stop using Google Sign-In at any time. To request deletion of your ChessEver account and associated personal data, contact us at info@chessever.com. You can also remove ChessEver's access from your Google Account settings; removing access does not by itself delete data already stored in your ChessEver account.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Personalize your experience and deliver relevant content
- Process transactions and manage subscriptions
- Send you notifications about tournaments, games, and updates
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app
- Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
- Process AI assistant messages and conversation context through AI services to answer chess and ChessEver questions, retrieve supporting information, and handle feedback
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We may share data with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the app (e.g., analytics, cloud hosting, attribution, crash reporting). See Section 9 for a full list.
- Affiliate & Creator Partners: If you install the app or buy on the website through an affiliate or creator link, we share aggregated and limited user-level attribution, event, and conversion data with that partner through AppsFlyer and our affiliate dashboards so they can measure referrals and receive their commission. We do not share your email address, name, or direct identifiers with affiliate partners without your explicit consent.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred.
4a. Advertising Identifiers & Attribution
We use attribution technology to understand how people discover ChessEver — whether through search, word of mouth, a creator or affiliate link, or a paid campaign. This allows us to compensate the partners who bring users to the app and invest in channels that actually grow a healthy community.
Identifiers We May Process
- IDFA (iOS): Apple's Identifier for Advertisers. Only collected if you explicitly grant permission through the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt on iOS 14.5 and later. If you decline, we do not collect IDFA and instead rely on Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework.
- GAID (Android): Google's Advertising ID. You can reset it or opt out of personalized advertising through your device's Google Settings at any time.
- AppsFlyer ID / Web ID: A random identifier created by AppsFlyer for app installs or website visits. It is not tied to your real-world identity and cannot be used to contact you.
- Install Referrer: On Android, the Google Play Install Referrer is used to match an install to the click that drove it.
- Campaign & Creative Parameters: UTM-style parameters, affiliate codes, and creator sub-IDs embedded in the OneLink you click.
Your Choice (iOS)
On iOS, we will ask you for permission to use IDFA the first time you open the app. You can change your decision at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and within Settings → ChessEver → Allow Tracking. If you decline or later revoke permission, attribution continues to work through Apple's SKAdNetwork, which is aggregated and cannot identify you.
Your Choice (Android)
On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time under Settings → Privacy → Ads. Enabling "Delete advertising ID" causes Google to return a string of zeros, which AppsFlyer and ChessEver treat as no-tracking.
4b. AI Assistant (Botvinnik)
Botvinnik is designed for chess questions and ChessEver help, including directions to our privacy policy and service terms. AI answers can be incorrect. Please do not submit sensitive information; personal information you include in a message may reach our service providers and is not automatically removed.
ChessEver sends your messages and recent conversation history, including earlier assistant replies, to Cloudflare Workers AI to generate answers. Language, timezone, app platform and version, and current event, game, or player screen context may also be included. The assistant can retrieve chess records and supporting material, which are supplied to the AI when answering. This processing is not limited to the text of your latest message.
AI and research requests are made through ChessEver infrastructure. We do not add your account email, account user ID, or sign-in token to the model messages. This does not make conversations anonymous: ChessEver stores chat history with your account, and your messages or screen context may contain identifying information. Providers also process connection and service metadata from our infrastructure.
For questions requiring external research, search terms derived from your question may be sent to TinyFish Search, and source URLs to TinyFish Fetch. Useful retrieved evidence and associated research queries may be saved in our chess knowledge bank for later answers. Personal information included in your question can also appear in derived search terms.
Cloudflare states that Workers AI customer content is not used to train models or improve its or third-party services without explicit consent. This is Cloudflare's stated policy, not a promise that ChessEver conversations are never stored. See Cloudflare Workers AI data usage and the provider links below for their published practices.
Using the assistant is optional. You can stop sending messages at any time. For access, deletion, consent questions, or information about provider retention, review, and international processing, contact info@chessever.com. Stopping use does not itself delete stored conversations. Our data-retention and rights sections also apply to assistant data.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access your personal data

- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing of your data
- Data portability
8. Children's Privacy
Our app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. Third-Party Services
To operate ChessEver we rely on a small number of well-known processors. Each one receives only the minimum data it needs, and each is contractually bound to use it solely on our behalf. We do not sell any of this data.

Embedded live-stream players
Tournament organizers can attach their own YouTube, Twitch or Kick live streams to an event. When you open a game from such an event on the website or in the desktop app, the stream plays in that provider's own embedded player, loaded from the provider. The player may start automatically on game pages; that means the provider receives the data listed above as soon as the page or screen loads, before you interact with the player. You can hide the player with its toolbar control, and it never loads while the panel is hidden or while the app window is not visible. The desktop app shows the same chessever.com player page inside its window, so the provider sees chessever.com as the embedding site. Where YouTube designates a video as made for kids, we load its player in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. We do not receive personal data from the providers about what you watch. ChessEver's use of YouTube API Services is also governed by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
The app may also contain links to third-party websites (tournament pages, partner sites, etc.). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites — please review their policies separately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
