IM S Aswath becomes India’s 98th Grandmaster
IM S Aswath scored his final GM norm at the Pune International GM Round Robin 2026, finishing on 7/9 after a must-win final round with Black.
IM S Aswath has become India’s 98th Grandmaster, according to ChessBase India.
Aswath scored his third and final GM norm at the Pune International GM Round Robin 2026, finishing with 7/9 after winning a must-win final-round game with the black pieces against FM Kannan Vaidyanathan.
His earlier GM norms came from winning Grenke Open A 2025 and the First Saturday GM Round Robin Budapest in December 2025, where he also crossed 2500 FIDE.
