Shreyas Royal beats Luke McShane to reach 6/7 at British Championship
A top-board Round 7 win lifted the score to 6/7 with two rounds remaining in Coventry.

Shreyas Royal defeated Luke McShane in Round 7 of the 2026 British Chess Championship, moving to 6/7 with two rounds remaining.
Both players entered the top-board game on 5/6. Royal had White and took the full point.
The result creates a new title-race development after five players entered Round 7 tied for first. The rest of the round was still in progress when Royal’s result was posted, so the final Round 7 standings were not yet complete.
