David Llada announces bid for elected FIDE vice-president seat

David Llada has announced that he plans to run for one of the four vice-president seats elected directly by the FIDE General Assembly.

FIDE’s election notice says applications for elected vice-president positions are due by August 26 at 18:00 CET. The FIDE Congress is scheduled for September 20–27 in Samarkand, with the General Assembly meeting on September 26–27.

In his announcement, Llada said he wants to bring more commercial and private-sector experience to the 15-member FIDE Council. He described the role as unpaid and said he is not representing a federation or bidding for FIDE events.

Llada served as FIDE’s chief marketing and communications officer from 2019 to 2023 and as the Internet Chess Club’s communications director from 2023 to 2026, according to his statement.
