Vignir Vatnar Stefansson defeated Hilmir Freyr Heimisson in Round 8 of the 15th Split Open, reaching 7.5/8 with two rounds remaining.
Stefansson has seven wins and one draw. His Round 8 victory expanded the lead from one point to 1.5 points.
The classical tournament runs through August 14 in Split, Croatia. Stefansson entered as the top seed.
